UIC BSN applicants for fall 2012

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

hi guys

Jan 15th has passed and now its time for the wait, I am pretty nervous because UIC is my number one choice and I would really love to start this BSN program in the fall. Its one of the best schools out there for nursing not only in the state, but in the entire US. Their grad programs are ranked among the best. So I am sure you guys want it just as bad as I do. Now its just time to wait till late April to find out whats going to happen.

who has applied to this program? and are you guys pretty nervous about this whole process? what do you guys think they are looking for in an applicant? what do you think is the deciding factor outside of just total package? is it GPA, medical experiance, essays, letters of reccomendation, etc..????

It was a pretty long application process so I know you guys are dedicated and put the time in. So lets hope for the best, feel free to join this thread at anytime.

May I ask younursejilly1 that how many classes that you need to take more and how is your gpa? Thanks! ^__^

I didn't get in neither! My GPA is 3.75, I have no ideal the program is so hard to get in, otherwise I could prepare my eassy question better. I am international student too, and my community college do not accept international student. That is the reason I applied for UIC, and it is the only school I applied for this year. Now, I don't have back up plan, do you guys know any program at any community college or university in illinois which don't require green card? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Truman college 's not require green card.

May I ask ,do you complete all the prerequisites ?

I got accepted to UIC Chicago and I'm an international student. I am coming in with a Chemistry bachelor's degree from Portland, Oregon. Any other international student out there who got in?

I got wait listed, I really hope its not a lottery system here, that would be bad, and not fare to those with better grades and overall application, I really do not know whats going to happen and pretty upset over this.. i have not heard back from a school in wisconsin but UIC was my number one choice, if anyone has waitlist info. please let me know!

did you get waitlisted?? what are your stats like? its kind of crazy, i do not understand what they are really looking for, i guess we will know more about the waitlist on monday

Hope you get in. Now, I hope that I will get into Truman. I don't want to wait to next year. So sad but .....ok.

Hey,Someone asked what i had in order to get accepted. Here it is:My cumulative gpa at my community college is a 3.87, but it was 3.9 at the time I applied. I had taken general bio, anatomy 1 & 2, and General chem 1 & 2. I still had to take organic, which I actually dropped two days ago because I realized I didn't need it for the school I'm going to. I have also volunteered at a hospital for over a year, and im a CNA. I had a letter of rec from my nursing professor for Cna and my boss who knows me as a manager. I had many people proofread my essay questions.I'm trying to think of there's anything else.....?Anyway, congrats to everyone who got admitted! For those wait listed, at least you know there's one spot opening up...:)

Thanks Nursejilly1!!

I hope they will be able to tell us what we are ranked when it comes to the waitlist, being waitlisted sucks big time... but what are you going to do...

I will call in on Monday to figure out how the wait list works and usually how many people come off of it. I would love to be ranked very high on there but you never know how this thing goes. is it a lottery? is it ranked by gpa?? you dont know, but you opening up a spot for someone gives me alot of hope because i think there are at least 5 or 6 more people in your situation that will choose to go to other schools instead of UIC, so I hope this is the case and at least 9 or 10 spots open... we never know.. only time will tell now...i just cant wait till monday so I can get a hold of someone in the school of nursing and ask about this. if someone gets a hold of Rob or anyone in the school of nursing, can you guys please share what you guys talked about and ask these same questions... good luck everyone, keep the faith

thanks

I got accepted to Urbana campus and now I have to decide between UIC-Urbana and Mennonite College of Nursing. I'm leaning towards UIC but I have a feeling Mennonite would give me more in financial aid and scholarships. Their scholarship application asked for alot less and I didn't procrastinate on writing the essays. It sucks that I have to give a decision by May 1st before I get my financial aid and scholarship information.

I've talked to alot of nurses that went through the program and students in the program right now and the general consensus seems to be that UIC is alot more research and higher education focused, rather than actual clinical experience so that's something to consider too.

My stats were:

- 3.8 GPA

- Only 3 of 5 sciences were completed when I applied.

- CNA Certification

- Letters of recommendation from CNA instructors

- Strong essays (Getting the CNA helped so much in writing these)

- Male

Hey Future!

Wait listed lol! Yet, I did get accepted to St. Francis in Joliet, Its private and about 8 grand more than UIC.. I'm not worried though. I think is has a lot to do with the fact that I'm currently taking Gen Chem and Survey of Orgo and Bio Chem in the summer. Wish me luck. Good Luck to you also.

Also, not really sure if being bilingual is a plus. And yes March did drag but I was surprised to see the email from Rob. He was the guy that did the information session I told you about.
