UCSF undergrad GPA Are they strict about the A.

Published

GPA being 3.0? I am a mid career changer, having graduated about 20 years ago from undergrad at Cal where I averaged about a 2.3 or 2.5 cumulative GPA--not impressive. I also had the chance of going to a prestigious MBA program but still did average there. I now have about a 3.6 or 3.7 in my nursing prerequisites. I am planning to get a certificate or A.S. degree in genomics and maybe histotechnology. Is it worth my applying to UCSF for the nursing program, or would it most likey be a waste of time because my cumulative GPA is so low? If I'm lucky, it will be around 2.7 with my new grades. I'm planning on trying to get good volunteer experience at a clinic and at a hospital.

Should I just put my sights on Samuel Merritt?

Hmm...SMU as far as what I have heard is not THAT simple to get into! They look at your cum gpa, sciences gpa, goal statement, TEAS scores and there's an interview. The minimum gpa needed is a 3.0 I believe. How is your TEAS scores? If you don't mind me asking, where did you hear that it might be simple to get in at SMU, since you stated at the end of your post "Should I just put my sights on Samuel Merritt?"

You're looking at applying to UCSF's Master's Entry Program, correct? They admit based on your bachelor's GPA, and the minimum is 3.0. I don't think your community college GPA would be taken into consideration at all.

They also have a "Master's Pathway" program (ADN --> BSN --> MSN); if you're willing to spend a few more years and a lot more money you could look into that.

Do either of you know how the process is at USF? Thinking of applying there too! Had my SMU interview already. I'm hoping n Ofcourse waiting...
