UCSD May 2012 New Graduate RN positions

Published

Just wanted to start a thread for UCSD's New Grad RN Program.

Feel free to post any updates or news.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Home Health, LTC/SNF.
I emailed the nurse recruiter and he said that it's all in the hands of the hiring managers now. That decisions for interviews should be within the next 2 weeks. And that there is one position available on the burn unit and well over 800 applicants. Yikes.

I only asked about the position I applied for, so I'm not sure how many surgical positions are available or how many applicants there were. Though a small part of me wonders if he meant that there were 800 applicants for both job postings.

Good luck!

Also, HHPrince, it didn't say that right away when I applied, but my application status changed to that a few days later. Check your status and see if it's changed!

Mine just says "application received (date)". Sad....

Did you apply to surgical, burn, or both? Don't give up hope yet. Like I said, I only specifically inquired about the burn position, so surgical might be different!

If it doesn't change in the next few days I don't think it would hurt to call/email a nurse recruiter. Their contact info is available on the website.

So has anyone heard anything? Also, my "referred to HR" date changed from the last time I checked. Did that happen to anyone else? RNinC- I only applied to SICU. I can't believe there are so many applicants!

No changes to my status. I contacted the NM right after I applied and part of me wants to email again, but I don't want to be a nuisance. I feel like there is such a fine line between showing initiative and interest and just being annoying. Haha!

Do you know how many SICU positions there are?

Hi All,

I'm totally late to this post but I also applied for both spots, but don't have SICU experience, just BICU. I just checked today and my BICU application says "referred to hiring department" and was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat? I emailed the recruiter and he said that interviews for both units are during the first and second week of September. Does that mean we should be hearing back this week?

RNinC: there were 3 SICU spots from what I remember when applying.

Yep, mine still says referred to hiring department. I also go the same story from the nurse recruiter. I have been on edge since applying!

Is your BICU experience from an internship? Where did you do yours?

Good luck!

Thank you! I did my senior practicum at a combined BICU/PICU here in Seattle, but want to move back home to SD now that I'm done with school. I'm applying all over southern california though, cuz I'd really prefer to be in the ICU. Was your peds burn unit in California?

No, it was in Cincinnati, OH. Burn nursing is really were my passion is! It was somewhat surprising actually. I requested that hospital for my senior practicum/role transition because I was really interested in peds and it was the only full peds choice. Then I ended up falling in love with the burn aspect.

I wonder if UCSD calls or emails to schedule interviews? Anyone know?

Looking at some of the older posts I think they call to schedule interviews and email rejections.....

UGH! It's so nervewracking!

Spoke to recuiter -------- again today. He said that the units will be looking at the apps and calling potential interviewees during the first 2 weeks of September.

Spoke to BICU manager earlier in the week, she said "we won't be interviewing till the last couple weeks of Septemeber".

hmm...ok.

It's good to know that they are still processing the applications. I was just afraid they had already called all of the applicants they wanted. Thanks for letting us know!I am definitely trying to be at peace with whatever happens.
