I hope that someone out there can help me with some information. I have accepted a travel contract at UCLA Santa Monica working in their ICU. Can anyone offer any feedback about this hospital? Also, what areas would be considered safe and affordable near the hospital that would be willing to do a short term rental (3 months)? Any other advice you can think of that might help me out?
THanks for your time

Hi,
Congratulations on your new travel job. I have been trying to get in this area for a while now, but there aren't any needs for my specialty that I know of. If you are planning on staying only 13 weeks, why aren't you letting the travel company set up and pay for your housing and utilities? From what I know, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a nicer area of LA. Good luck and I hope you have an exciting 13 weeks.

I think Santa Monica is a great place to live! Commuting is miserable so if you can get something nearby, say within 5 miles, you're set.
Depending on where you're from, the rents might seem outrageous. I agree with the previous poster, it'd probably be easiest if the travel co could set you up. Most rentals don't come furnished and those that do tend to cater to business people and cost more than the average place. Another possibility for a short stay is to look for a furnished room to rent in a house.
If you do need to find your own place or just want to check out the local offerings, check out Westside Rentals and Craigslist Los Angeles. Nearby areas to look in include West LA, Palms, Mar Vista, Venice and Culver City.
