UBC Nursing - Sep. 2012

World Canada CA Programs

Hello Everyone!

I am considering applying to UBC Nursing for the September 2012 intake... but I'm not quite sure if I'm eligible to apply...

My primary concern is my post-secondary credits... everyone seems to have already completed a Bachelor's before applying? As of now, I have 40+ credits... by the end of June 2010 I'll have 50+ credits (which is the deadline for all transcripts), but they're a combination of first-year science, calculus and language courses with only a couple of second year o-chem... would that be ok?

I am currently a Langara student, but I have studied at SFU before until my relocation.

I've also read on the website that the average age of applicants were 21-47 (please don't quote me on this, I can't remember the exact range)... and I'm now 18 (will soon turn 19 though), but I have the requirements it's just that I'm unsure if it's alright that my 50+ credits are mostly first-year...

My GPA now is 3.3 and hoping to boost it up after this semester...

I volunteer regularly at a senior home and am a certified lifeguard and swimming instructor, worked part-time at Timmys until relocation and now have a part-time job at a local grocery store... I just hope age isn't that big of a deal because I know what I want and I'm working for it...

Should I apply at all...

(Very Worried. HELP Please!!!)

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Hey I'm having trouble finding the group I can see the 2010-2012 cohort but not ours?

Hey I'm having trouble finding the group I can see the 2010-2012 cohort but not ours?

Hmm.. That's strange.

I just asked one of the group members how they found the group (and she said that she had difficulty finding it too), and she said that she found the group by typing "UBC Nursing 2014" instead of "UBC Nursing 2012-2014"

Try that and let me know how it works. If it still doesn't work, I'll send you both PM's with my details so I can add you manually.

I got in!!! Got my acceptance on May 7th. It was the perfect way to end my vacation :o)

I found the group pretty easily, I searched UBC Nursing then had to click at the bottom where it says "More Groups" or something like that. It's just further down because it has few members at this point. :) hope that helps

Thanks for the info!

Compiling/summarizing everyone's helpful responses I came up with a step-by-step guide:

1. In the search field, type "UBC Nursing 2014". As you are typing down those words, a drop down list should pop up below your search. In the drop-down menu, click on the link that says "see more results for UBC Nursing 2014" at the very bottom.

2. If our group still does not show up after doing Step 1, filter your results by going to the "search filters" panel on the left hand side of the screen. Click the link that says "Groups". This will filter your search results by groups only, and should bring you to our group.

3. Once you get to the group page, "Join" our group. There should be a "Join" button. The benefit to joining instead of lurking is that you can interact with group members and it will be easier to keep you in the loop about a possible meet-up. For safety reasons, "event" details (ie- a potential meetup) may be restricted to group members.

Even if you join this group, your profile privacy setting are honoured. In other words, group members (including myself) will not be able to gain more access to your page than you allow the "public" to.

Hi everyone,

I too have been following this threads since last year!

I got accepted to 2012 UBC BSN on May 7th as well :)

Can't wait to meet you all - I joined the Facebook group too! (At first, I thought you've made a Group on this allnurses.com site so was searching for it for awhile lol)

It was very nice of you making the group so we can all be connected! Thanks!! (@hopingfor2012)

D :)

Hey all,

Just paid my deposit via the Student Service Centre! One more step out of the way!

This is a bit of a pain, I know, but I am not on Facebook, so I'm wondering if I could be kept in the loop for a potential meet up by some other means? I'd love to meet y'all in person before school starts: it's been so great to feel connected through this forum for the last couple of months!

I can't PM anyone yet, but maybe after a couple of posts I could PM someone here and give them my email address so that I can be given details about any meetups that you have to be on Facebook to hear about?

Yay I just paid my deposit as well! Also for all of those wondering when you can register for a timetable, you can check that under 'registration' on your ssc account. If you don't see a time, go to my program under 'tools' and select nursing. You can also look at the standard timetables for nursing if you want to get a general idea of when classes will be.

Yay! I finally heard back... I'm number 1 on the waitlist!!! It's sooo good to finally get a reply!

Hope to see you all in August! Yippee...

Hello All,

I just got my email today and I am #17 on the wait list. Not the best email to come in.... Anxiously waiting to get in. It would be great if all the wait listers here could keep everyone updated on their status.

Thanks,

Sonia

Hey I also just heard back and found out I am on thw wait list (22). I have to say that I am really disappointed in myself. I emailed them back asking what the odds of moving off the wait list into the program. From reading other threads it seems that people from the wait list do get into the program but I have no clue how many. My fingers are crossed for everyone else who is in the same situation and congrats to people that have been given an offer.
