Has anyone else applied to Uab's BSN program for the 2019 Spring semester?
Hello everyone! Congratulations on your acceptance to the nursing program. So I have a couple of questions and hope you guys can give me some guidance. I have a bachelor's in Ele. Ed. And I would like to apply for acceptance to the Spring 2020 semester. However, my prerequisites are not complete and my GPA for those classes is only a 2.77 without the 3 classes being complete and my transfer GPA from Athens State is a 3.1. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Athens. I plan to complete the other 3 prereqs this fall at UAB. I dont work in the health field and do not have any work experience or volunteer experience as of right now. I was previously in the Nursing program at Wallace State Community College but did not pass my 4th semester due to personal things that happened. Pointers please? I am applying to the program as soon as I am admitted to UAB. They are currently waiting on my transcripts. What should I do in the meantime to help my chances of acceptance?
UAB looks at 2 GPAs: overall and nursing-prerequisite. I know students who had below a 3.0 overall GPA that were accepted (just a few though). I believe the essay, resume, and recommendation letters go a long way, especially if your GPAs are not as high as you would like. Recommendation letters from nurses, nurse practitioners, anesthetists, etc. are a plus in my opinion. Also, if you have held leadership positions at your previous jobs make sure you list those on your resume. Hope this helps and I wish you the best. One more thing...apply to multiple programs. This helps your chances of getting an acceptance.
Thank you so much for your response! What are they looking for in the essay? I am not sure where else to apply because I have to be able to drive there everyday. I have three small children, 2 in school and one in daycare. Also, as far as my resume, I have not worked in healthcare. I am setting up shadowing hours though. I worked in school systems as a teacher for the last 2 years.
