I recently moved and have had several interviews in the Anchorage area with several job offers and would like to know if anyone has a idea of salary? The position I am considering is a home health position as I am finishing my RN and would like to focus on public health. I have experience in the ICU/PACU and with Med-Surg and also carry EMT, ACLS, PALS and BLS certifications plus my military experience. The position pays per visit plus a gas stipend and a salary for meetings in $/hr (a couple hours a week). What is a typical rate per visit, salary per hour for the meetings and typical gas reimbursement?

Welcome to the site. Since wages and the cost of living is generally higher in AK than in the lower 48, I imagine you would have to get some input from someone who is familiar with the area. Have you tried locating info on the employment websites for openings in AK? Hope someone pipes in with some info for you.
Thanks for the input Caliotter. I have searched employment websites for local salaries but all I can turn up is $/hr salaries. I have never done home health and need some direction for salary negotiations. Because I will be getting paid $/hr for meetings and office time, a set amount per visit to pt's homes and then a mileage fee I am at a loss of where to start???
Well not to sound dumb, but you might follow my strategy. I'm always so happy that they're talking job to me that I take whatever salary they offer. I really do. I work hourly in CA and I would bet that there is a difference. I once looked at some job offers for the VA in AK. The pay range was similar but the cost of living difference was a good sum if I remember right. Look back on some of the older threads in the home health forum and you can get an idea how wages range in other areas, then add to that and you probably wouldn't be far off. Sorry couldn't be of more help.
I just went to http://www.indeed.com for Anchorage and found an ad by Maxim Healthcare for staffing where they advertise a range of $30-$45/hr for RNs. They pay somewhat less for home health. I know that one of my former clinical supervisors at Maxim was earning $25/hr in the Bay area of CA, also known for high wages and high cost of living. If I were an RN in that area, I would be negotiating for $40/hr and more. Good luck.
