Typical Hospital Interview Questions

Just wondering what questions are normally asked during PCT hospital interviews.

I know that all places are different, but just as a general idea.

I've only worked in 3 places as a CNA and they were all LTC so I'm wondering if hospitals will ask different questions (I can't remember what I was asked for my LTC position interviews either, as far as that goes lol).

I'm assuming the typical: "when is a time you demonstrated leadership?" of course the dreaded "what is your biggest weakness?" etc.

Anyways, I have an interview on Wednesday and I always get really nervous when they start asking me questions like that because I never feel as though I have/had enough time to think about what they're asking.

Specializes in None at the moment.

They may ask about your experience in time management regarding CNA/PCT to patient ratio.

They'll ask about your phlebotomy skills (depending on the unit you're applying for, sometimes the nurses do the blood work)..

Electronic Health Record/ Electronic Medical Record Charting abilities "Are you good with computers?" "Have you ever used electronic charting?" If not, that is NOT a DEAL BREAKER. They will send you of to for a day of training while you're in orientation or you'll be trained on the job. More than likely, be prepared to spend a day learning how to use their electronic charting system. I'm experienced with three different EMR software systems and I'm still required to go to training because there are several brands of EMR systems that Hospitals will use: E Clinical Works, Success EHS, EPIC, Sunrise... They all function the same but have their own little quirks.

Scenario questions about how you'd handle a difficult patient or family members (or both). "What if a patient refuses to have their vital signs taken, a bath, or blood drawn?"

These are just a few but mostly general questions from my experience and experiences of friends throughout my pre BSN days (in progress).

Also, get a good night's rest and avoid caffeine the day of and the night before (makes a great difference) eat a good meal, and easy on the sugar. I get nervous too, I was in my most recent interview for Clerical Partner/Monitor Tech, just 3 weeks ago. I stumbled on my wording of an answer to a question and still walked out with an offer (a rare thing these days). It's hard to plan for these things. Just be sure to apply you patient care experiences in your answers as much as you can when you can - it helps a great deal!

Good luck!!! Breathe, and it's perfectly okay to ask them to repeat the question. It's okay to repeat the question in your head as you think of the best possible answer.

Psh, I am great at that! I was the only CNA for 26 people at my last place. My time management is excellent

No phlebotomy skills as of yet. But I'm hoping that since I'm starting the RN program in August, that'll show that I am on my way to learning soon. (It's for the orthopedic/oncology/surgical units).

Both LTC facilities I worked at were very simple electronic charting. I can't for the life of me remember what kind, but I'm sure I can text my nurse from there and ask what it's called. It was all done on the kiosks hanging on the walls (although I accessed them on the computer in the nurses station since it was quicker).

Thank you mucho! And congrats on your offer!
