To my fellow Tulsans :)...
I need help deciding on a hospital to extern with in as I enter my Senior year this summer!
I'm thinking of the obvious: St. Francis, Hillcrest, St. John's, Southcrest.
Anyone know the specifics? Or can elaborate on previous experience? Advice? ANYTHING!
I'm running out of time... thanks guys!

I know you posted this a couple of weeks ago, but I was just wondering how your application process was going. I've been on 2 interviews so far and I got a little discouraged. The department I want to work in is really competitive and they basically told me that I probably wouldn't get in because the people on scholarships get the first choice of places to work.
I am probably just going to go wherever offers me a position first. I figure any paid learning experience has to be a good thing, right?
Hey Gecko,
Well, so far so good (I think) :) I've actually only interviewed with St. Francis. I think I'm in the same position you are... applying for a competitive area and no scholarship. I was afraid to commit to a scholarship going into nursing school because I haven't had any working experience at any of the area hospitals. I'm wishing I had a scholarship right about now.
I'm also waiting for an interview with St. John, and considering Southcrest. The recruiter told me that not many people have applied for the NICU at Southcrest, and that it should be pretty doable to get me in there as an extern... but my heart is in PICU. They don't have a PICU there at all. I'd hate to accept NICU (2nd choice) there, and learn how Southcrest does things, knowing my big goal is PICU.
I get butterflies thinking about PICU... just want to wrap my arms tight around all of those very sick kiddos! XO
I'm rambling...
So, what competitive area are you interested in? Seems like L/D, anything "ICU", and ER are where the competition is...
PS Don't get discouraged... they WANT to hire you... you+ externship= future employee for them! That's the hope for them anyways. And yes, any experience is so much better than none. There are people in my class not even applying! (?!?)
Let me know how it goes... I think my classmates are sick of me asking them, haha.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!
