I have been a Nurse for 4 years at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Tennessee. I will be moving to New York this coming spring.
To complicate matters even more, I started the Vanderbilt Nurse Practitioner Program this past fall because Vanderbilt pays 18 credit hours of tuition a year for me (so I can go part time and they will pay for it).
Here lies the problem......I can't work full time at Vanderbilt if I'm living in New York......so who can I get to pay my tuition other than relying on student loans.
I am attedning a NP program that is distance learning.....I only go 4 days a month , so I would fly into Vanderbilt for the 'block', then fly home to New York. But work is impossible.
My question is......is there any hospitals in New York that would help me pay for This Nurse Practitioner School........and how long would I have to work with them before these benefits will kick in??
And I am willing to work outside New York if the need be.
I appreciate anyone's help with this, because it's almost impossible to get this information when I call direct....I get mostly a run around.
Thanks again

thanks to RNs many years of union activity and collective bargaining, pretty good tuition reimbursement for advanced education and continuing education is a standard for nurses here.
There is tuition reimbursement in just about every facility. Usually you have to wait till after your probationary period in the job before being able to utilize it. Some have caps on credits and costs. Shop around.
