I am attending Western Governor's University because they are accredited and tuition is much more reasonable.

Be very careful about on-line programs for nursing. they have to be accedited. My daughter in Washington State and myself here in Oregon were thinking of taking some on-line classes for nursing and when we checked the RN programs, the credits were not transferable. Also call some hospitals and see if they recognize the degree from the school you are thinking of attending.

If you have been in for over 3 year active duty starting after 9/11 then you are eligable for the New Gi bill. They will pay 100% tution according to the average of the state. For example if the average state tuition in CA is 9k, then they will pay 9k towards Kaplan. But since it's a 2 year program they will probably pay 16K, in addtion to that you will receive BAH per month for an E5 with dependants, I think it's around $1500 per month. So you could either live of this money, or put it directly towards the school and not have much debt when your done since the RN program is 50k there. Also are you a military spouse as well? If so you will get 6k from MYCAA. Good luck, you may want to move this post to the CA nursing school thread, I know there was another military spouse on there who was also a VET and so they could tell you EXACTLY the amount the VA would pay for you.

i went to the one hour nursing orientation about six weeks ago because i too am looking to apply to kaplan college in san diego this year. i asked a lot of questions of ravae smith, she’s the admissions representative that conducted the informational session, and is completely knowledgeable and thorough. here are some important facts to consider:

1. enrollment is three times per year, roughly spring, summer and fall. and the application deadlines are about six weeks prior to the start dates.

2. requirements to apply are; bachelor’s degree or six months medical experience, direct patient care. and you have to provide proof of either one. wonderlic test and teas scores. you can take both of these tests at kaplan college. high school diploma. transcripts. and criminal background check and urinalysis. i took the wonderlic test cold the day i went in for the briefing and scored a 29, 24 is the minimum accepted. i’m scheduled for the teas next month.

3. the program is 24 months and includes all required general education courses as well.

4. the approximate cost of the complete program is $52,000. military veterans receive a discount which brings the cost down to about $38,000. kaplan does not participate in the yellow ribbon program through the va. unfortunately, you can’t talk to anyone about financial aid until you are accepted into the program. the post 9/11 gi bill pays for tuition up to a certain amount and provides a bah entitlements of $2018 per month. also, if you are a military spouse mycaa offers up to $4000 for tuition but they have suspended that program for new applicants until october 2010.
