Tufts/NEMC?

Published

Anyone here work at NEMC in Boston? I am trying to get more information on it, but have had a very difficult time getting a nurse recruiter to return my phone calls. Any info would be greatly appreciated (opportunities for new grads, what the working env. is like, etc.).

Thank you!

I think they hire in house or by referral and satisfy the EEOC requirements by actually posting the jobs. Keep us posted and good luck.

I am in the same situation, what's worse is I am only interested in a position specific to peds. I know that it is virtually impossible to get into NEMC unless you know someone, and the one person I know (who is a PICU nurse) is even having a hard time trying to find out information for me. Late notice but they will be at the Job Fair tomorrow at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston (Thurs, 11/10). So if at all possible you may want to try that way.

I don't have alot of information on NEMC but I do know that they have an extremely low turnover rate. Hope this helps and if i do get a name that is not specific to pediatrics I can pass it along to you.

Bummer - I am out-of-state and wish I could be in Boston tomorrow for the job fair. It seems that finding a job is going to be much harder than anticipated. Do you have any information on MGH?

Good luck to you and do you mind relaying any scoop you get at the job fair? I've heard that most of hospitals have a really high retention rate - good for them, bad for us! :chuckle

So I did get to meet w/ the nurse recruiter for the Tufts-Floating Hospital today, so the nurse recruiter is specific to peds but her name is Jennifer Turner. You could find her over the website, which is www.tufts-nemc.org or try to find the (adult) nurse recruiter on the site. I asked her why they tend to not hire new grads at nemc and she said in general they will hire new grads but you have to be willing to put the work/time into orientation, meaning that you need to go home after your day and study, study, study. It sounded like the nurses are receptive and welcoming to you, once you prove to them that you are willing to put 100% effort in. I can't imagine not putting 100% effort into orientation so that doesn't sound like its asking alot from new grad, but the recruiter was saying that you'd be surprised.

As for MGH, great, great, great hospital. Great nurses, loving and very welcoming nurses. I did my preceptor there and I love MGH. They are not union so the pay is a little less , the nurses do work hard and some people say their nurse/staff ratio is high but i NEVER saw that, and my friend worked there up until one month ago and she has nothing but wonderful comments on the hospital and the staff. The nurse recruiter for MGH is Sarah Welch and email is [email protected]

Brigham & Women's is union, so higher pay but union dues plus union guidelines, some people like that and some people don't. They do have a great new grad orientation/preceptor program.

Hope this helps. If there are any other hospitals your interested in knowing about....

Wow! Thank you so much for the great information! I agree with you in that I can't imagine not putting in 100% to orientation. Good to know that they do indeed consider new graduates. I am going to try to find out more about MGH since I will be living only a few blocks away. I went to an open house at B&W a couple of weeks ago and their orientation does sound very good. I guess that is really my only pre-requisite since I am still unsure exactly what area I want to be in - I just want a good orientation with a lot of available support!

What area did you do your preceptorship in at MGH?

Thank you again for being so helpful!

I did my preceptorship on Ellison 12, which is a neurology floor. The nurses are fabulous, many of them are young, all are friendly. I didn't have much interaction with the physicians but they all seemed nice and they have a great PA. My friend worked on White 7, a surgical trauma floor. I think the nurse manager on the floor is new since she left and a couple of her friends left the floor too (they all switched to travel so they did not leave b/c of the floor), but they all loved it and they were all great friends. I know the nurses, physicians and PA's have a great working relationship. MGH is Magnet and it shows, they all work as a team and I highly recommend them. B&W is great too, very smart nurses. Good luck to you!

OMG I was a nursing student on ellison 12. A wicked awesome nurse named carolyn was our instructor. Those nurses were the best nurses I ever worked with. They loved students and when something was going on they would be grabbing us as they ran down the hall saying"come on come on"It was a great experience to have has a student. The semester before I was at B&W. Those nurses where mean just plain mean.I would love to work a MGH. It is just way to far away for me.

I worked at Tufts/NEMC and I loved the nurses there. I was a student and they were soooo cool and smart and such a fun group. I also worked at MGH and those are the smartest nurses ever! MGH is incredible. I love the physicians, they are all really nice.

AVOID White 7-8-9 those are awful floors to work on.

marissa81579 - tell me about White 7, 8 and 9....why are they horrible? I need to know what I could potentially getting myself into! Thanks! :)

I know this is an old thread...well almost a year old :) I was wondering if anybody had info for the nurse recruiter at MGH. Is it the same lady or a different one? I just graduated with my BSN this past May and passed the boards in July so I've been struggling to find a job in the Boston area. I'd love to work at MGH since commuting wise would be so convenient for me since I don't live very far from the hospital. And Leo_BSN, are you working now?? If so where are you working? :) Thanks for all your help! Very much appreciated for any info you guys might have. :nurse:
