I briefly spoke to a nurse who did this, unfortunately our conversation was very short.
She works in NYC but lives (or has a second home) in Florida. She goes back and forth all the time, but I don't know how often.
Even if you don't start off with frequent flier miles, you'll certainly get them after a while. I think you should check out the airlines near your local airport. See which ones are the most reliable in regards to getting off the runway on time, etc.
I think you should keep your flight time as short as possible. 2, 3 hours as opposed to 7 or 8- it will seem like a quick flight and there will be less chance for layovers or transfers- all which make flying more of a pain than pleasure.
I live in the northeast and I know of facilities that offer employment options for people in your situation (even know of someone who commutes from Canada to work in a facility in Philly). I would contact the bigger hospitals in places like NYC, Philadelphia etc and see if you get any feedback.

Hey there folks,
Here is my question:
I currently live along the gulf coast of Florida and work ICU with 5 years experiance. Salaries in this region are relatively low when compared to the many places in the US and opportunity to grow without relocating is somewhat limited. What I would like to do is find a way to fly into a region, any place in the country, and work for 2 weeks (min 5 days per week) and fly out with the enitire trip (travel and lodging) at my expense.
I dont want travel assignments because I am married with children and am looking more for like 14-16 days on and 21-26 days off. Medical benefits are covered by my wife who is able to basically work from home, so I really have no need of benefits and want to maximize my hourly rate.
Is there anyone on here who is doing this? I think it would be possible via staffing/super pool position etc. but trying to find someone who has done something similar.
Thanks for your time and feedback
