how do you treat: anaphylaxis, asthma attacks, rashes, broken bones??

Hello again,

I have another Q. Since the camp I'll be working/volunteering at is brand new, they don't have a health center set up yet, they are relying on me to stock it and set it up. Since I've never been a camp nurse I'm not sure the main health issues I'll be dealing with, so I don't know what's most important to stock. I talked to a nurse who worked in a related camp at a different location and she said we don't stock epi pens. If a camper had any sort of anaphylactic reaction how would you treat them?

If a child had an asthma attack, but no inhaler how would you treat them?

Should we stock many splints for broken bones or just transport to an ER?

For bug bites, stings, rashes should we stock hydrocortisine?

The thing is that this camps funding for building the camp has run out, so the rest of the building is being done voluntarily. So now they don't really have money to stock a health center-

I have very little to work with, I need to know what's most important and how much of something to stock (they are expecting around 250 campers/staff). As a nurse I want to be ready for anything, but in reality (unless I buy it myself) I won't get everything a health center probably needs. For me, the ABC's (airway, breathing, circ.) issues like ananphylaxis/ asthma is more important to prepare for than a broken bone. I sure could use some help to figure this all out.

Thanks!!!

Wow! How did your summer end up going?

To me, the camp administration was not ready to camp. It sounds like nursing care was a very low priority for them. And May 30th was too late to solve many problems. I hope you made out okay.
