Traveling to Florida - need directions

I would like to know if anyone knows a good driving route to Florida from Maine. Some friends of ours are going West through Pennsylvania to avoid the city traffic (Baltimore, D.C., etc.). I had just planned on taking 95 all the way, but our friends seem to think that going all that way to the West will actually be faster. Any snow birds out there drive this route on a regular basis?

95 may be your best route..if you can time it so you get through the md/dc area late at night, traffic is pretty clear (anytime after 11pm). i drove from NH to VA in about 8 hrs and it was mostly night driving.

I did the drive from FL to NH this past fall and did cut over into Pennsylvania to avoid 95 through DC, Balto. and NY. It did seem to be a good route and no traffic hassles (I HATE driving into DC and NYC!). Which part of FL are you going to? Let me know and I'll try to give you a good route after I get my map book in from the truck.

Im going to Sarasota. I was planning on taking 95, which wasn't all that bad last year. I may head towards Jax, and take the route west just before entering Jax and cutting across the state.

When you get into FL, if cutting across the state be careful of two towns - one of them is Waldo (and I can't remember the name of the other, but will come back and post it). They are small towns which are so widely known for their speed traps that even AAA will route you around them! If you do go through there be extremely careful of the changing speed limits - I think the whole town budget is financed by speeding fines.

Your other option would be to come down 95 to 10 west to 75 south to Sarasota.
