Traveling for clinical rotations

Published

I understand that all nurse anesthesia programs are different based on location, number of students, front-loaded vs integrated, and other factors. I am trying to get a better understanding of how clinicals work in general.

The CRNA I shadowed went to a front loaded program and only had to spend one year in the town where the college was located. After that, she spent the remainder of her schooling in a different town about five hours away from the college doing clinicals, which was closer to her hometown.

When you move to attend nurse anesthesia school, is it wise to get a place closest to the campus, or does it even matter considering your time spent on campus is probably much less than time spent at healthcare facilities?

I currently own a home, so it'd be in my interest to purchase a more affordable home with my equity while I attend school, but if I'm traveling all over a state/region for clinicals, I can't imagine it'd be worth it. How many clinical sites do you usually attend within the program?

I have so many questions regarding this subject, and am open to the many viewpoints and experiences of others.

Thank you!

I didn't own a home when I moved to MN for anesthesia school. Me and my fiancé rented but I had also saved up quite the sum of money and she worked to help with bills rents etc. The furthest I traveled was 4 hrs away. If the clinical site was more than 60 miles away from campus we usually had housing- if not we usually commuted. Sometimes there are people within the hospital/anesthesia group who know of people who allow people to stay with them. I found one of these spots when I was in southern MN. It was a family friend of a prior student. I think I went to a total of 6 different clinical sites during my rotations. Live where you wanna live it doesn't much matter.
