I've been travelling for the past 10 years now, so I do have a few suggestions for you. Travel as light as possible, pack well, and if there is something you absolutely need, ship it to your place.
I usually just take my clothes, a few uniforms, and my sewing supplies....usually I have more sewing supplies than anything else, but that is another story. For all the household stuff, I go to the local Goodwill, Salvation Army, and any other thrift-type store to pick up my essentials. When my stint is done, I donate them back, and take it off on my taxes as a donation. I don't bring any pots, pans, dishes, silverware, glasses, towels, sheets...just my own pillow, and my own blanket, but that is my preference. I travel with my husband and two dogs, so I have learned to travel light. We only have a small car as well...a Chrysler Cirrus. So I guess I am just real good at packing, and don't leave a lot of extra space. Not everything is in big suitcases. The ones I have are more like duffel bags, and I put things in plastic bags that I can "stuff" into the small spaces in my trunk. Makes for an interesting trip tho....I keep wondering, "When am I going to get a flat?" I have an answer for that as well--keep a can of fix-a-flat under your front seat!
Good luck and have a good trip!

I'm currently in California and I'll be travelling to Denver next month. My boyfriend is travelling with me and we dont want to drive 2 cars. We're going to somehow ship our belongings and even a car to Denver. Any suggestions of the cheapest and most effiecient way? Thanks!
