Travel Nursing in the UK once Graduated

Nursing Students General Students

I am a 4th year nursing student in the USA, I will graduate in May 2009 with my BSN (RN). My fiancee who is older than me will be transferred in his job this New Year to London, England. I am trying to figure out a way to get over there once I graduate- and have a job so that we can be together. Does anyone know anything about travel nursing Internationally? I know I can't get a job over there through the Nursing and Midwifery Council because I would have to work in the USA for a year before they would even consider processing my application. So, it looks like travel nursing Internationally is all I have left- does anyone know if they even take new grad's???!!

Thanks to anyone who posts and helps me out : )

Hi Redhead0202,

After reading extensively on this subject as possibly working in England in the future too, I am sorry to say that it would be near to impossible for you to get a position as a nurse as a new graduate who is not a citizen of a UK country or an EU citizen. Even if international travel agencies did place nurses, most travel agencies are going to require a minimum of one year experience...sorry to burst your bubble there too.

The best bet is getting experience here in the US in an area that is in high demand there...such as a NICU. How long is your fiance going to be working in London? Is it a temporary post or is it a long-term venture? If I were you, I would work here and try to bunch off your time off so that you can visit your fiance so you can visit often...

Check out the International Forum here on allnurses and also check out the americanexpat forum. There is some real good info and links to get the answers that you need.
