travel nursing

Are there any travel nurses on here? If so, could you please give some tips, advice, pointers? I am thinking of changing courses in my career. I am currently an MICU nurse of 5 years. I think I have reached a time in life where traveling would seem interesting....however, I really don't know where to start and it's all a bit overwhelming when you begin researching travel companies. Any reccommendations or help is definitely appreciated!

It's kinda a broad question/statement. I am a travel nurse ... There are so many companies, I don't think you will find a website that says this one is good and these are bad. All have pros and cons and I am sure every travel nurse could tell you about their great or horrible experiences with each company. I researched multiple companies and looked to see where they had jobs at. I submitted my info with multiple companies until one found me a job I was interested in. I have stayed with that company just because they have always been good to me and had jobs that suited my needs.

Figure out 1)where you would like to go, does X company staff in that area? 2) what perks are most important to you, and talk to X, Y, and Z company and find out what perks they offer. 3) Do your homework, I got a lot of leads and then called my recruiter with them. I know, this should be their job, but sometimes you gotta do things yourself to get them done.

I am looking into my first travel nursing assignment and am talking to two different companies. One is large and the other seems to be smaller? Any input on whats worked for you? which company did you use?

Read the sticky threads. I start my first assignment next month. Before making the decisions on which companies to apply to I read through ALL the posts in those sticky threads. Some are just bantering between users, but most are useful. I will tell you that in the course of reading all that material no single company emerged that didn't have at least one rant against it. It seems to me that its the recruiter that makes or breaks a company. If you're unhappy with a company, ask for a different recruiter. See if anything is different.

i am new to this forum and i still trying to get the hang of this posting thing. but i am really curious as to how your experience ended up in downey. i myself am getting my first travel assignment in a kaiser facility. i know the pay is nowhere near where id like it to be, but i know that kaiser will accept newbie travelers and i just want to get an assignment under my belt, then go on from there. do any of you guys know about housing/apt around the hospital areas? about how much is the cost of living? including utilities. any info is helpful. i am in tx and don't know ca at all. have only visited san diego. thank you guys in advance. like i said, this is a little hard for me to figure out lol email me if possible at [email protected]. :nurse:

I currently work for Camillus Staffing and there are several things that I like about this agency; They have a manager who is available 24 hours a day 7 days aweek, the communication is excellent, and I always get paid ontime! It just depends on what you are looking for in a travel agency. I know alot about traveling agencys and how it works.
