Travel nursing fears

I have serveral friends who have gone into travel nursing. I've been eye balling it for some time now. I have no clue where to start. My husband may be relocated next year which will give me the perfect oppertunity to get into it then. How to I go about looking for the right company? I live in Florida and at this time only want to take assignments kind of close to home. What are the ups and downs of travel nursing? I hear the good and bad. I don't want to get stuck somewhere that is truly horrible. Any ideas?

Do a LOT of research on this & other boards, talk to a LOT of different travel companies, and make sure you find a recruiter you trust & feel comfortable with!

Thanks! I will. That sounds scary. Lol.....I know a couple of people that went into it, I'll have to get with them and see what they say. Thanks for answering tho. ;)

since you live in florida and if your working in a hospital your probably in close contact with travelers. pick their brains about their travel agencies, recommended or not hospitals. most travel agencies offer more or less the same - it's general bill rate that is divided differently. mostly it boils down to the recruiter, you must develope a repoir...if you are unable ...it probably won't get any better. note that in the case of recruiters actions speak volumns, words are nothing.

I agree with cooblu. Your recruiters actions speak much louder than their words. I have been traveling for 2 years now, and I still talk to other travelers on my assignments. You can never have too much info. For some reason, all of my recruiters have been promoted during my assignments. 2 years traveling, 5 recruiters! (2 different companies though)Oh well, I have been treated pretty good by each of them, so I can't complain too loudly. Also, this site is an excellent source of info as well. Good luck in your endeavors and may God bless you!
