Travel nurse with 2 kids under 5

Published

I am a labor and delivery nurse, and am a huge planner. I would like to do some travel nursing in my future before my kids are in school. If I plan to start around March 2018, my children will be around 2 and 4. we would buy an RV so the children wouldn't have to be moving around to different houses.

Just looking to see if anyone has done this.. I currently make about 2600 a month working 64 hours every 2 weeks, and would hopefully make more than that as a travel nurse so I could support my family.

Just looking for some advice from travel nurses with small children. Did it work? what is your average monthly salary?

Thanks

If you search this site for travel and kids, you will find that, yes, many have done this, and even more have asked the same question. Successful travelers with kids almost invariably travel with another responsible family member.

Yes, under current demand, you will make more as a traveler, even when you factor in the considerable loss of staff benefits.

I spent the last year traveling with our two kids (5 and 2). As far as the amount of money you can make, it varies widely by area. I've been working in southern CA and making more than $2k a week. The cost of benefits IS expensive - the travel agency insurance policies were insanely expensive and didn't have the kind of coverage I wanted. We got our health insurance on the state exchange instead and it was much more affordable for better coverage. It's probably the only downside of this kind of work, and it's obviously still very manageable making as much money as I have this past year! Best of luck!
