Would it be possible to be a travel nurse if you have a large family?

Of course anything is possible if you are flexible enough. I have known travellers who only traveled in the summer to take the kids with them and have know many who had preschool kids who were quite portable. If you just like the idea of travelling locally, you might find a position fairly close to home. I am on assignment now that is about 5 hours from home. I work 6 and am off 8 days. It works for me, but I no longer have kids at home, just a hubby who runs the farm while I am gone. Most companies offer a housing stipend so you can rent a house instead of take the company offered apartment if you need more room. Just remember that most contracts are 13 weeks and it seems like it takes that much time to acclimate to a new area. Some contracts end up being much longer if you extend, but you may not know that up front. Last year I took an assignment that was about 100 miles away, so I did come home if I did not have to be back the next day. It put lots of miles on the car, but I got home a lot more often. Be creative, and just look for places you want to go and plan accordingly.
