Dear freinds
i heared about transtesmanial agreement, as i understand it's : if someone( RN) has a valid license and registeration in New Zealand he/she can work in some areas in Australia without need of further registeration in Australian board of nursing of this area ( and vice versa) is this correct???????!!!!.
if so would you please tell me which areas in Australia are covered by this agreeemnt ( in other words, if i have NZ registeration, where in australia can i work without need of further Australian registeration )
Thank you for kind support

Hi,
My understanding is that is not quite what the situation is.
If you are registered in New Zealand then you are able to apply for registration elsewhere in Australia without having to do any further qualifying education or exams. The same goes if you are registered in any state in Australia, you are able to apply for registration in NZ.
There are plans for one registration board for both NZ & Aus, but that has not occured as yet.
If you wish to practice in QLD, then you would need to contact the QLD nurses board for an application for registration, and the same would go for any other state or territory.

The information which you have been given is wrong. You must apply and be granted a nursing licence from the State which you want to work in, eg NSW, Qld, WA, etc etc. In Qld, it's called Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Act 2003 and you apply to Qld Nursing Council.
For as long as you have a valid NZ nursing registration with no conditions attached, most of the nursing council will issue you with that State's nursing board's registration, providing you have completed and met the requirements.
So, if you want to practise in Qld, then you need to have Qld registration. And then, if you wish to work in Sydney, then you will need to apply for a licence from their nursing board etc etc.
When I applied for my registration, I applied before I flew in and then went to QNC and was issued with a temporary licence on the same day;), until the permanent one was issued for the year which they sent in the mail.
