Transitioning from another unit to NICU

I've been offered a position on a Telemetry unit at a hospital affiliated with one that has a NICU. I am thinking at using this as a way to "get my foot in the door" so to speak. Prove I can be a reliable employee, and a good RN. How hard a road am I about to take? I know I want to work NICU, but unless I get a phone call this week offering me an interview, it won't be my first job as an RN. It would be dumb of me to not consider this job, especially since it will help me complete my BSN as well since being a University Employee you get tuition waived for up to 18 credit hours a year. In the mean time I have to get ACLS, and the manager for this unit encourages one to get PALS as well even though they don't get kiddos...pretty much said "ya never know". And he said I can take any class offered at Chandler Medical Center, the other hospital in the system.

Part of me is torn, as I REALLY want to work NICU. But the practical side of me is saying I need a job now and NICU isn't going anywhere. Anyone go this route, or something similar? It would be dumb of me to hold out for a job that may not be offered in lieu of one that has wouldn't it? ( I know the answer to this one, just put it down anyway....)
