Transitioning from adults to peds

Published

Hello! I have been a RN for nearly 6 years. ALL of my experience is working with adults, in various specialties; i.e.- M/S, Tele, Step-Down, and ICU. I have always wanted to work in pediatrics; however, as my career moved forward, I felt like that dream got pushed further and further away. Any suggestions on how to transition from working in an adult step down unit into working in a children's hospital? The reason for the question, I would like to make my resume more viable to a pediatric RN recruiter before submission! Any ideas are appreciated!!! Thanks.

I don't think you need to do anything other than apply. I've worked Peds for 5 years, we get transplants from the adult world all the time! The basics of nursing are still the same. The numbers are a little different, and we approach the patient a little differently, but I don't know that there's really a way to prep for it- just jump in and learn!
