Transferring to Rutgers Nursing

Published

Hello!

I've started a slightly similar post like this on a different forum at allnurses, but I thought it would make sense to post on a forum that knows NJ nursing programs best.

Here's some backstory:

I recently graduated from high school in June of 2013, and I'm going to begin online and in-class courses at a community college to finish some of my GEN EDS such as English, Psychology, Biology, and Sociology. (Note: I am not in NJ right now, but I am overseas since my mother works on a military base, and there is a community college here that offers only GEN ED studies/online courses, not nursing.) I'm also working on my Rutgers application for this Spring 2014 to go in as a transfer since I'll have 12 credits completed by then; I'll be applying either as a Biological Science (SAS) or undeclared major. I wanted to transfer into Rutgers nursing for my sophomore year, and I believe I can since I will have 24 credit hours completed by then.

Will it be possible for me to do so, or would I have to wait until next year? Also, what would happen if I enter Rutgers Spring 2014 as a first year student instead?

Is Rutgers Newark an easier program to be admitted to compared to New Brunswick? Someone mentioned to me that I can take nursing courses even if I'm not declared as a nursing major, is this true?

I would appreciated any other advice as well, thank you!

I am currently a student at Rutgers (newark campus). Ita not so easy and straight forward to get into their nursing program. I did almost the same thing as you. I took a bunch of classes at a community college. And for Rutgers you have to spend a yr taking their classes to meet the 24 credit. It has to be legit rutgers classes. transfer credits from other unis or ccs dont count. And taking nursing classes w.o being a nursing major is extremely hard. I tried to get into these nursing classes. And with no luck the undergrad advisor couldn't allow me to get into them. And you cant transfer in the spring. They only accept for fall term. So you have to spend a year taking random classes them transfer to their program and you will probably start as a first yr in their program.
