Transferring to Rutgers (Generic BSN)

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Hi all,

I am currently pre-nursing at UCC. I am trying to save as much money as possible, so I am taking all of my prereqs at a community college before I transfer over to Rutgers. From what I have read on here, Brookdale Community College offers many prereqs that my current school does not, which will save me both time and money when the time comes to transfer over to Rutgers.

Is it possible to transfer credits to Rutgers from two different schools? If I withdraw from UCC and attend Brookdale for a few semesters to gain credits that are unavailable to me at UCC, will Rutgers accept the credits from both colleges?

THanks everyone.

You should be able to transfer credits from multiple CC's, so long as those credits are covered by the njtransfer agreement. It shouldn't matter how many different institutions you attended. The NJtransfer site is kind of confusing at first but has a lot of helpful information: https://www.njtransfer.org/

The admissions office at the School of Nursing is also super helpful if you give them a call. (When I've tried emailing, I never seemed to get a response...) The Recruitment Office can be reached at 973-972-7014. I'm looking at the School of Nursing General BSN admissions page, and it looks like they're saying they're no longer accepting transfer students from outside of Rutgers into the general BSN program. So you would have to transfer into Rutgers as a non-nursing student, complete another 24 credits at Rutgers to fulfill their residency requirement, and then apply to transfer to the BSN program.

I'm getting this from BS in Nursing at Rutgers School of Nursing btw

You should give the recruitment office at Rutgers a call and see if they plan on accepting transfer students from county colleges anytime soon. It looks like the credits that you're taking aren't a problem, but the fact that they're not accepting transfer students from outside Rutgers might put a wrench in your current plans.

Best of luck, and I hope you manage to avoid the infamous RU Screw!

Thanks so much for your in-depth response! I know about RUSON not accepting outside transfers and I intend to apply to the school of arts and science to complete the 24 credits before applying school-to-school. I'm just trying to save as much money as I can on my education in the meantime before I transfer to RU SAS. The phone number you provided has been very helpful!
