Transferring between a nursing program

Published

Hello guys, I have a question regarding transferring between two programs and would like some input. Currently, I am in a transfer bachelor program, I did by pre- reqs at a community college and then applied to two colleges, college A being my 1st choice. College B's transfer program only starts in the spring so, i joined this program just in case I didn't get into college A because its so competitive. Well, i found out 4 days ago that I was accepted to college A and i am currently in my first semester in college B. how do i go about transferring to college A. I dont care about transferring classes. Should i tell both colleges about the situation or quietly leave college B for college A and never mention college B to college A?

Most likely, you wont be able to transfer your core nursing courses. It is very rare for two separate nursing programs to accept core classes from another program. So if you accept the spot at your college A, then you will need to start over from the beginning. To do this you definitely want to tell college B you are dropping. If you just leave and don't say anything, and something happens at college A, you will ruin your chance of reentry at college B later. I hope that makes sense. GL

Okay. Do you think I should tell college A about College B or just forget that I ever went there?

We had some people in our program who started at college A and then restarted at college B out of school preference. Our school is aware of it and there haven't been any issues. They did have to start at the beginning though.

You can withdraw from your current program and continue with your main choice. You should tell your main choice you were in another program, especially if you are using financial aid or loans. Most schools require transcripts from all schools attended in the past. Good luck!!

When should i tell them? During advisement or now? I have already paid tuition deposit and accepted the decision

Really any time should be fine. They accepted you based on grades. They may want to see how you did in block 1 at college B to make sure you didn't fail out, but other than that I cant think of a problem with it. You won't be the first or the last student who has done this. Just call a nursing advisor or the admissions office and ask them what you need to do if you are withdrawing from another program to attend theirs and they should be able to tell you.
