Transferring an LPN License

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hello, everyone!

My name is Kristen and this is my first post here, though I have lurked quite a bit!

I've been an LPN in PA for 11 years and the job market here is the pits. It's something like 50 applications per one open position. Yuck.

A couple of great opportunities were presented to me in the Jupiter and Palm Beach Gardens area. The area itself is not new to me as I have family residing there. I'm also not adverse to the move.

I've scoured the FL State Board of Nursing website and simply cannot find what it is that I am looking for: how do I transfer my PA license to an FL license? What fees are involved? Continuing credits? In PA, only RNs need those. How long does the process take?

Any insight would be appreciated!

Thank You,

Kristen

Welcome to allnurses! :balloons:

There's no such thing as "transferring" a license -- you are applying for licensure in FL, period. You'll still have your PA license. Go back to the FL BON website and look for information on applying for licensure "by endorsement" (that's the term for applying for a license when you already have a license in another state, as opposed to being a new grad applying for your first licensure "by examination" (the NCLEX)). All the info and forms you need should be there.

Best wishes!

I endorsed my license to FL. It was a painless process. Download the application, pay the fee, and wait. Mine only took like 3 weeks to come in.

Sorry for the delayed response. Pennsylvania is not a member of the nurse licensure compact. That means it's not a compact state. You'll probably have to jump through some hoops (so-to-speak).
