Hello!
I am currently reaching the end of my first year of nursing school at Seton Hall University in Northern NJ. Unfortunately, the social life is not as flourishing as I thought it'd be, due to the fact that it's mostly a commuter school - and I live four hours away. However, I will be staying for at least fall semester next year, in hopes that a new/better roommate will bring a somewhat better experience. If that doesn't pan out the way I hope, I will be transferring. I am looking into Stony Brook because I am a NYS resident, but would like to be close to NYC. My boyfriend also attends Seton Hall, so as long as we are together that will always be a factor. Upon researching Stony Brook, I think their nursing program is a little out of my reach. I got a 27 on my ACT, 1150 (yikes... I know. that's why I submitted my ACT) on the SAT, and last semester had a 3.12 GPA; however, I'm doing a lot better this semester so my GPA for the year should be a bit higher. Pretty much, what do you think I would need to do to get into the nursing program, besides pray?
I also am required to do 10 hours of volunteer work this semester so I am volunteering at a nursing home and at a recreation center for disabled adults. I also volunteered at the VA Hospital at home for two summers in HS.

Stony Brook is indeed a very competitive school, and its nursing program is even more so. Not sure if you have what it takes, but it never hurts to try. Also, you should transfer only if you think it is in your best academic interests, not your social interests. You spend at most 4 years in school; I am sure you can wait to make friends.
