So I have recently been kicked out of the nursing program I have been in for the past 4 years! I got below a "C" in a course and now am trying to go through an appeal process to get back in. I am two semesters away from graduation and the school has completely blown me off!! Is it dumb to transfer to another school or even a community college to just get it done? I am becoming more and more in debt as the years go on! Here it is almost August and I have no idea what's going to happen with the next semester. Even if they accept me back into the program they could make me only repeat that one class next semester giving me NO financial aid and I will still be living at home! At this rate it means I won't be able to graduate until December of 2010 if they put restrictions on me; which means being more poor, another year older, and still living in Maine and at home with my family..... Anyone have any advice???

keep swimming. you can do it!
Thank you! That's one of my favorite motto's. However I just want it now! I have no idea what I should do. I will be a nurse someday but I don't want to be the loser nursing student that takes 8 years to get her BSN.
yes, I know how you feel ! It's going to take me as long...as well...due to finances!

I would check to see if transferring is an option first. You said they kicked you out of the program because you got below a C... If you aren't in a nursing program you probably won't be able to transfer to another one. The act of transferring means you are currently in a program.
I would make an appt with your school and talk to them about what options you have there. Then I would take your transcripts to a few other schools and talk to them about what they can do for you. Then you just have to weigh your choices.
One thing is for sure, the time will pass whether you are in school or not, the difference is you can sign RN after your name if you continue on and finish nursing school somewhere. Best of luck to you!

i didn't fail out of program but i was not able to complete the program i was in after second semester. after a long break (almost 8 years) i got things in order and began the process of reapplying to my school. my original program stated i could not pick up where i left off at because of the time lapse and gave me the option of starting from scratch. i didn't want that so i started calling ever nursing school that i knew (and some that i've never heard of) and explained my situation. luckily, i found a program that was willing to accept my previous nursing courses provided that i pass a challenge exam.
the exam was not easy but i'm glad i did it that way. i studied my butt off and was success in passing the exam (i was the only that passed by the way). so here i am, less than a month away from starting in my third semester with only one semester left before graduation!
the point i'm trying to make is, don't see your failure as a closed door. it's an obstacle that you have to overcome but their is always a way. talk to your school, see what your options are as far as reapplying or taking the course over and if need to, check out a few other programs in the area so you can have some choices. just be honest about your situation, show your determination to finish but most importantly, never lose hope. good luck! :nuke:
