Transfer to New Program Halfway?

Published

Hi all! Question- Is it possible for me (1st year and 1st semester student) to transfer from my BSN program into another BSN program in the same state?

Both schools have great reputations with all my professors being very well educated and kind, but I just find myself unhappy and kind of disappointed here. The other program, a state school, was my first choice but unfortunately I was denied due to the competitiveness of the program so I went to my current program. Not to mention this is a private university so the tuition is insane- which adds to my disappointment. The other school is amazing and less money. I was denied by only 5 points ahhh!

Is it possible for me to transfer into this other program? I will have to apply again and perhaps start over but would that even be worth it? I am about to finish my 1st semester in about a month... I know my school unfortunately does not have a Summer semester but this other program does so I don't know how transferring would really work. I am looking to finish my BSN asap and losing a semester wouldn't hurt but a year/2 semesters would really suck. Also the money 💔

All I know is that I am not happy here. But then again, when will I be fully happy while in nursing school LOL .

Thanks! I will get back to homework now

I looked at transferring programs after the first year of nursing school, not because I was unhappy but because we were moving due to my husband's job.  There was a nursing school where we were moving but their program was set up very differently and I would have had to go part-time for 3 semesters losing my scholarships in the process.  Instead, I transferred campuses of TWU from Houston to Dallas, even though it meant a crazy 2 hour commute and staying some nights away from my family for my remaining two semesters to get my BSN.
Best thing to do is check with the school you want to transfer to.  But don't be surprised if it isn't easy to transfer.  I know it might seem like an insurmountable obstacle right know to finish where you are because you aren't happy.  I remember thinking I would never make it through 8-9 months commuting and being away from my family so much.  But really it went by so incredibly fast and it was so worth it in the end.  It required sacrifices and hard work but no regrets.
