hi my name is Ruth Golez. I just moved back here in tampa last november 08' i'm a third year nursing student in the philippines. and now i'm hoping to transfer to a university in here. I applied in USF but unforunately the nursing dept. is already full and that i didnt meet the required GPA but i'm an upperlevel transfer student. and they advised me to get another major because in doing so i can be accepted as a student for the fall. What majo do you think i should get in relationshion to nursing?and if in case i wont be accepted in USF. what school can you advise me to go? please help me.

Thankyou.=)

Is there a health science major available? Health science is a good complement to nursing.

hi i appreciate your reply.c: yes i think they have health science there. Do i have to finish health science first before i can shift back again to nursing? how about psychology?

Thanks.=)

Is the nursing department telling you that if you do well in another major that you can still get into nursing in the fall? Yes, psychology is another good choice. Just start taking the courses in the major that interests you the most, then when you get into nursing, change that other major to your minor.

Yes the adviser told me that i can get any major but its much better if related to nursing. but she didn't assure me that i can easily shift back to nursing, because nursing is always competitive. Which is what im worried about.

yup psychology is actually whats on my mind right now. Are you also from USF?are you filipino?

Thanks.thanks.

No to both your questions. You might want to consider retaking courses, especially science and other nursing prerequisite courses, where you didn't do as well before, to raise your GPA. Different schools have different policies concerning the repetition of courses, so you need to look into this. Even if this school will not take new grades into consideration, you might want to do this in anticipation of applying to other nursing programs. Good luck.
