Is there a difference between hyperal. and TPN?

Is there a difference between hyperal. and TPN?

They are basically the same thing.

TPN and hyperalimentation both refer to the provision of protein-containing IVF for the purpose of providing nutrition (not just hydration and electrolytes) to a patient. TPN (total parenteral nutrition) is actually the correct term. Hyperalimentation is a misnomer, as it is neither hyper- (it does not provide greater nutrition than could be given via the gi tract), nor -alimentation (as it is not given via the gi tract).

Lipids can be given in addition to TPN for added calories via fats.

What Jolie said and, hyperalimentation (or "hyperal," as we used to refer to it) is an old term for TPN. :)
