Towson BSN Waitlist.. How Long to Wait?!

Published

As of right now I will be starting in the CNL program at UMAB this Fall. Even though I am really excited and looking forward to it, the $$$ involved are downright scary, especially with a family to support and lots of bills. I got the call from Towson yesterday reminding me to send in my Spring transcript so they can evaluate my application again for the 2nd degree BSN program. So excited was I about UMAB that I almost forgot TU had waitlisted me a couple months ago. Anyway, if offered a spot at Towson, I think I'd jump on it because it's about 1/2 the price (student loans). But they tell me I may not find out if I made it until after the semester starts!! I know each semester is different, but anybody out there get waitlisted by TU and ultimately get in? Anybody actually find out after the semester started? Does that seem crazy to anybody else out there?

I do not see their second degree program online, could you send me a link to it? I am applying to Salisbury for next fall, and I think Townson might be a good back up! Thanks for the info!

I was waitlisted in their BSN program and recieved a call in the middle of June prior to the program starting, and accepted the postion. I just graduated from there if you have any questions.

TU does not advertise the option of a "2nd degree" option in Nursing per se, but if you have completed all of the pre-requisites listed in the application form, you may apply to the program and start the "junior/senior" schedule of classes they list on the website. In other words, the 4 year program in Nursing is front loaded with general university requirements / pre-reqs for the first two years and the Nursing-specific classes the last two years. So if you are accepted than the program takes 2 years to complete. It should be noted that the program is not "accelerated" as some other programs are; it's two years with the breaks , holidays, etc. included, just like for all the rest of the undergrads. If you contact Brook Necker at the e-mail listed on the website, she is usually pretty good at getting back with answers to any questions. They get a lot of applicants (I would assume more than at Salisbury), but it never hurts to apply to multiple programs. Good Luck!

It would be awesome if they would contact me in June and let me know, even though I am anticipating the worst case, which would be they call me on August 15th after I have already lined up my loans, bought my UMAB parking permit and ordered my books! With the cost and major planning that goes into applying to and getting started in a program, it just seems nuts that they would view accepting people days prior to the semester as an acceptable way of welcoming incoming students. But I guess it has everything to do with folks dropping out at the last minute and the need to fill every open position no matter what. I guess I should be praying that somebody who was accepted into the program gets cold feet and backs out so I can get in! ;)

Good luck! I also had a classmate who was on the waiting list and got accepted prior to the start of the semester. I vaguely remember hearing that most of the people that get on the waiting list get accepted. Some people get outright rejected from the program, so have hope!

I definitely have hope, as does my wallet :D!

Thanks for the support.
