Hi everyone!
I am fairly new to these boards (and nursing... haha), so I tried to do a search but it didn't turn up anything. I have a couple questions that I feel the experienced can answer best!
1 ~ What are the best shoes? I cannot wear anything canvas. I've had my eye on the Birkenstock clogs because they look so cute and comfy... but before I drop $80 I figured i should ask those who know best!
2 ~ I went to school in NJ where malpractice insurance was highly recommended. I moved to NC and got my license and a job here and people don't seem to have their own insurance. I'm looking for advice. I'm all about covering my a**. It it necessary? If not necessary, maybe just smart to have? Also, any good agencies I should look into if I plan on getting insurance? I appreciate the advice.
I'm also a new grad that just took a position in the ER... both big shoes and insurance place... hehe :)
Thank you!!

Hi -- welcome to allnurses, and welcome to NC!
1 ~ There are nearly as many opinions about this as there are brands of shoes. What it boils down to is that each of us is an individual, and what is the best/most comfortable make of shoe for me might not work at all for you, and vice versa. There are people who swear by Birkenstocks, people who swear by SASs, people who swear by several of the brands of athletic shoes, etc., etc., etc. Before you spend a lot of money on any brand of shoe that someone recommends to you or looks "cute," try lots of different brands on and walk around in them. That's the only way to figure out what shoes are most comfortable for you.
2 ~ I'm a NC nurse (x 20 years), and I've never worked a day without my own Liability Insurance. We do exist ... :) There are several older threads here that discuss the pros and cons of personal liability insurance (ad infinitum, if not ad nauseum), that you can search and review if you're looking for more opinions. If you know that you want to get insurance and are just looking for a source, NSO seems to be popular (they advertise in all the general nursing journals (AJN, Nursing200x, RN, etc.) and have a website). Some people here have mentioned that they get coverage through their homeowner's insurance (or through their regular insurance agent).
Best wishes with your new job and home --
