Took the TEAS...Heres some advice

Published

I just got back from taking the TEAS. Let me just start by saying how stressed out I was because I missed the date to take it at a school I applied to, and ended up finally finding one, which offered it the next morning! :smackingf

Funny how only one of the schools I applied to requires this test.

So, yesterday I studied everything I have learned in the last few years in college, and mostly my physio/bio/chem. Turns out, this was the easiest exam I have taken in the past few years. The reading / comprehension / grammar portion was a complete joke. I'm surprised how simple these questions were. If you can't spell things like luxury or you don't know when to use its/it's, you're/your...you need to learn that because all of the reading stuff on that test were things I learned in 2nd grade. I definitely stressed for nothing. I didn't even have a study manual. It's a bunch of BS to get your money. Like I really needed to buy a book that shows me how to add a list of items and figure the total amount spent.

If you are pre-nursing, you should have taken bio/micro/physio/anat/chem anyway, so just study the basics of your old notes (if you keep them like me).

My parents said they going to the store. Now you have to chose the correct answer for the underlined word. The whole reading/grammar was simple as that. LOL.

Science was nothing like I expected. Just basic. Don't waste your time studying anatomy or physiology. There was only one physio question. Maybe like 3 chem questions, "how many neutrons, given __ atomic mass and number." Know how many bonds elements can have. Carbon-4. The rest of the science was asking questions to see if you know how to interpret data and what you would conclude (so easy!) or asking things like why would a student do this rather than this when conducting an experiment. Trust me, theres nothing to study with that, its all common sense.

Math was the worst part for me. Not enough time (the whole class shrieked when she said times up for math) I didn't even study the math portion anyway. But a lot of conversions, ml/g/gal/cups per gal, etc. A lot of ratios, tons of adding and subtracting long decimal numbers. 43.533-16.767. Convert __kg to g. Really it is basic, especially considering this is for applying to nursing school. They make it all like its a big deal like the MCAT or something and requires a study manual! If you have all your notes/books from your previous courses, buying the book is a waste of your money.

I think I did quite well, just the math might have screwed me up. Other than that, you all should not worry at all. Don't even stress. Just study your math basics, conversions, a little bit of chem, know how to read charts and graphs (come on, a 10 year old can), and know how to spell.

I went in on two hours of sleep, all for nothing. Time for a beer.

thanks, that makes me feel better, especially about the science part! helpful to know to brush up on conversions, too.
