Too many online NP programs

Nursing Students NP Students

I will be applying Fall 2015 to an FNP program but am noticing just how many schools have gone to online/distance education only. WHY? I want to sit in a classroom, get to know my professors, and go to clinicals in the area of the school, ESPECIALLY if the school is affiliated with a large university hospital system. Is this too much to ask? I think the nursing profession is selling itself short by creating so many online NP programs. How are people going to take us seriously if this becomes the normal way to pursue our education?

Please, this is not a personal attack on nurses attending online NP programs. There are reasons people do online (personal/family responsibilities in home state, can't leave job, etc) but for people that CAN and are WILLING to move to attend an FNP program full time (and I do think this should be the normal and preferred way)...why aren't these available anymore?

I would love to discuss this trend and read the opinions of traditionally educated vs. online-educated NPs.

I hope everybody gets a job. The only tiring remarks people make is how they are looking for the path of least resistance. The for profit programs feed off of this. Any many people complain about it after they complete their programs regarding not being able to find work. Just do a search. It's real bruhs.

The usual post:

Hi hi I want An ez np program cuz I have 8 kids and I'm single and I'm also broke and I want to be an np with no effort and I'm a cna now can I do this in two years cuz I'm smart and can handle this medical stuff since I no I r sooper genius. K thankx bye.

And the the usual names of these posters runs something like 'koolmommanursechick'. Which is almost as bad as my name.

Yes, I believe we have all seen posts of those wishing to become NPs that are CNAs or from another field. People are allowed to have dreams and try to fulfill them. This is the land of opportunity. I don’t appreciate your jab at single mothers. I was a single mother when I went from CNA to RN. I had many nurses that I worked with jeer and say hurtful things about how I would not handle it, etc. Well, I did handle it. I graduated, got married, and finished as a NP. You should see the face of those nurses on the med-surge floor who jabbed me all those years ago. It is priceless.

I don’t know if I could have become an NP as a single mother, let alone go from CNA to NP as a single mother. Any woman who does this has the hand of God upon her. I wouldn’t jeer or mock something God has molded, he will strike you. It may not be today or tomorrow, but you will repay. If you believe in a higher power.

Actually that was an example of an exact post but if you feel like it was a jab at single mothers you're entitled to your opinion. Congratulations on becoming an NP by the way that is a big accomplishment doing that alone without support.
