toileting

Just a vent:

I am SO TIRED of toileting my patients. I feel like I am just a glorified CNA who also passes meds. It's literally all I do. And it is exhausting - these max assist, obese patients who have to go CONSTANTLY. It is making me hate my job. All I do is pass meds, toilet and chart (UGH FIMS!!!)

I hear you. It can take up to 30 minutes to take the morbidly obese, max assist, major CVA patient with left-side flaccidity to the bathroom, especially when (s)he is demanding to use the toilet and not the bedside commode or bedpan. When you have multiple patients who require 30+ minutes for toileting and nobody to help you take them to the bathroom, it seriously limits the time that you have to complete assessments, medication pass, charting, chart checks, wound care, and so forth.

I'm going to be brutally honest and say that I prefer to toilet the debilitated little old ladies who are not overweight because I can do it quickly without much exerting much energy. The extremely heavy patients are the most difficult to toilet, and you run the risk of physically hurting oneself.

we aren't allowed to use bedpans or BSC - just the toilet in the bathroom. At least most of the men can use a urinal - I want to invent a urinal for women!

Plus, the hardest patients to transfer wear the most IMPRACTICAL clothing - freaking belted pants that are impossible to get up and down.

Ugh. UGH.

Oh, really? I work at a corporate-owned freestanding rehab hospital that allows bedpans and bedside commodes. At least I have something for which I can feel fortunate!

They already have a urinal for women. Its called porta-jane, and it has an opening like a oval that lifts up to shape the rounded part of the anatomy. profile looks like a smile. sucker is sharp! someone didnt think it through.
