Congrats on getting into the program !
Clinicals start about 6 wks in, and yes, it is CNA skill based at nursinghomes (St Cloud area). You will each be assigned one resident to provide care for. If you have CNA experience, its nothing new.
Pair up with a student that has no experience, the first clinicals are terrifying for them. Starting at the nursinghome, you will have to write up pt assessments and careplans, due every Monday.
I think we spent 2 days a week for 3 weeks at the nursinghome before starting at the hospitals. Right now Teco is using Osceola Regional and St Cloud Regional. The clinicals depend on which instructor you have.
One instructor assigns you to a nurse, and you follow that nurse, and assist her throughout the day.
The other instructor assigns you a patient, and you provide all care for that patient, including bathing, changing the bedding, and vitals.
Don't worry, the clinical groups change instructors and clinical sites, so you will experience both.
You will spend time on Med Surg, Ortho, ER, OR, and CCU.
As part of our Peds rotation we were each assigned to an Osceola Co. school, and spent a couple days with school nurses.
My fav clinical experience was the ER at Osceola. I was able to see several "stroke alerts", an intubation, cardioversion, and give an IM injection to a child, just to name a few.
BTW, don't eat breakfast the first day of school. The "Senior" class prepares a breakfast for the incoming "Junior" class (YOU!)
Anything else?

First off Congratulations on your graduation
. I will be starting in August and am wondering about the Clinicals. Are the first ones basically CNA type work (as I have been hearing) and if so, for how long before you move on to other type Clinicals? What would you say was the best and worst parts of Clinicals (or all of your education experience at TECO if you don't mind sharing). Thanks.
