To anyone with NCP or Navy Nursing Experience please HELP!

I am currently in the process of applying for the NCP. (FY 2013) because I graduate from nursing school August 2013. Is it really late for me to be applying into the year? I am almost done with my application kit and am waiting on 2 more reference letters, but I will most likely have everything turned in by the end of the week. I also have my physical and 2 interviews with 2 Nurse Corps officers in San Diego on April 2. According to a lot of these posts, it seems as if i am just asking to get rejected applying so late, but I did not hear about the NCP until only a few weeks ago and have tried to move as fast as I can. Is it possible for me to apply for FY2014 or do I still have a decent chance? My medical recruiter doesn't seem to have given up hope, but he is a recruiter after all. I just want to get in...

You have to be in NCP at least 12 months before graduation. You have time! Relax and have a deep breath! I grad May 2012 and got into NCP in April of 2011, so I made it with one month to spare. Good luck!

I agree with littleluvbugnavy. As long as your recruiter is taking your kit, there is still a chance. From what I have heard a bunch of people selected in one of the last groups didn't sign and so a bunch of spots open. There may have been another board after that, so I'm sure it will happen again. And there was a point where my recruiter stopped the process because he was told they weren't taking any more (and that later changed). But they don't do work that isn't necessary, so just keep working on getting it complete. Good luck!

You got plenty of time, just turn in your paperwork ASAP!!, cause it takes a while especially due to them doing a Secret Clearance background check on you...I did the NCP for 12 months...just applied early 2010 for fiscal year 2011...I already graduated nursing school and passed NCLEX, just waiting now to go to ODS this May...And after you submit, expect at least 2 months for acceptance or rejection....but I think youll get it..cause it reallly is first come first serve and also depends on your grades and hx...Goodluck..

Thanks for the reply guys. The whole fiscal year thing is just so confusing! After speaking with my recruiter he made it seem like it was already too late to apply into the fiscal year to have a good chance yet he urged me to continue with the application and he set up my physical and interviews. I'm starting to think he is doing this to keep me moving as fast as possible... Good strategy I guess, but it is stressing me out.. haha

I found that the timeline for my application became less to do with what fiscal year I was applying for, and more to do with my "place" in line. From what I understand, once your packet is complete and submitted, you are in a line for review by the boards. If they fill all the spots for the current fiscal year, no more applications are accepted for a period of time, but the people still in "line" with already completed packets are first to be considered for the next fiscal year (September boards). That is what happened to mine last year anyway. Because I had to get a waiver, I became ineligible for NCP and had to switch to DA. Not hard to do, but still very competitive. It is a very confusing process, and it sounds like many people have differing experiences.

I agree the others: keep your grades up and participate in as many leadership or research opportunities as possible. Anything that would make your packet stand out. Good luck!

Hi guys, I too am interested in applying, but really have no idea where to start. The recruiter I spoke with today has never even heard of the NCP so that was very dissappointing. What is the process, where do you start?

KRR2009: Be certain you are not speaking with an enlisted recruiter. If he/she is a medical recruiter (working with doctors, nurses, dentists who go in as officers), they should be familiar with the NCP. The recruiters are really the best place to begin the application process, however lots of folks on this forum can offer valuable insight if you have questions along the way. Cheers!

I just got word today that all the seats for FY 2013 have been filled.

Source: recruiter.

I just finished my interview and physicals a few days ago.. What does this mean? Did you get accepted into the program or did your recruiter tell you you need to do direct accession? Any info would help as I am now really worried...

GuelnRn: This means that all the spots have been filled for FY 2013, which I believe is Oct 2012 through Oct 2013. I also heard that FY 2014 is filling up quickly. If I were you I would still finish and submit your kit, since some of the people who have been accepted will end up declining their spot.
