To an Anonymous Grad Student

This semester we had Nursing Services Economics, and our final project for the class was a budget proposal. The grading criteria required that we look at other proposals from those in our group, and comment. While reviewing one of the proposals, (specifically yours) in order to comment as required, I found something odd. The proposal had differing font colors. Some font was black, while some was grey. On a lark I cut and pasted a small snippet of text into Google. I found this: A Practical Guide to Finance and Budgeting, Second Edition ©2008 HCPro, Inc.

It's word for word.

I worked on my budget for a week. I came home from working a twelve hour shift on Sunday morning and put the finishing touches on it so I could post it on the due date. I went to work Sunday night EXHAUSTED after only 4 hours of sleep. I came home, passed out, and now I find this. If I knew it was as easy as cutting and pasting someone else's work I would have had MORE SLEEP TO TAKE CARE OF MY PATIENTS!!!

I am emailing you because I want you to know just how much this ****** me off. I am not telling the instructor. I am not throwing you under the proverbial bus and sabotaging your degree. I figure that if you keep doing things like this, you'll sabotage it yourself. Intellectual laziness like this kills an estimated 40000 to 80000 patients annually. That's 2 Jumbo Jets every 5 days, one WTC collapse every 12 days, eleven Sandy Hooks every day for a year (Yes, -11- per -DAY- to equal the numbers lost to Medical Errors in one year). To account for the deaths caused by preventable medical errors, we would need to have another Iraq war every 4 years, rather than every 10. If you only include Coalition Troop deaths, well, that would be an Iraq War every 25 days, more than 1 a month (Miller, 2013).

The above name and date in parentheses is a CITATION. I CITED because those statistics are not my own work. They are my husband's. You did not cite A Practical Guide to Finance and Budgeting, Second Edition (2008 HCPro, Inc.). That is called plagiarism, and it is total BS. I know I am not the instructor. I am a student, just like you. When you think of how messed up the healthcare system is, just consider that dishonest BS like this might be part of it.

P.S. All of this is saved on my hard drives and date-stamped so do not even think about retaliation. I also posted this publicly (without using your name of course) on the internet, so is there are any adverse consequences to me, because I sent you this email to try and save your ass, everyone will know why.
