To be an ANCC Accredited CEU Provider

Published

I work as a nurse educator in one of the hospitals in New Jersey. My employer is interested in becoming an ANCC accredited CEU provider and has delegated me to look into this initiative. I wonder if any of you work for an organization that offers CEU and if you can give me some tips and insight regarding the initial application and re-accreditation processes, e.g., How rigorous? How many nurse planners do you have? How much did it all cost ($ and staff resources)? How long did it take you to get prepared and through the initial accreditation process? I have been to the ANCC website (http://www.nursingworld.org/ancc/accred/index.html) and read the requirements but would really like to hear about your experience.

It is expensive but worth it (IMHO) because we can charge for the classes. I recommend the Provider Workshop your state ANA offers. You learn a lot about doing the applications and so forth, plus you get $500 off the license fee. We only have 3 nurse planners involved. The paperwork is a lot in the beginning, but you muddle through. My first application for a course took DAYS to get right, but now I can breeze through them pretty fast and finish the whole thing (about 20 pages) in a couple of hours. I don't know about cost as the facility had the license before I was hired. Good luck

Hi PurpleMania,

Thanks for the feedback! I just ordered the prep manual for $55.00 (discounted rate since I am a member of the the state nurses' association). It looks very "doable," however, I we only have 1.5 FTE educator where I work. It is likely that I we would need more educators or recruit members to be on the team. I really appreciate your very helpful feedback. Thank you!
