I just received a letter inviting me to Orientation. Does everyone who passes the Net get invited to Orientation? What will we do at Orientation? Please give me any feedback that you have. Thanks in advance.

I go to TN Tech in Clarksville. I'm not sure which one you're attending, but I do believe that everyone who passes the NET test goes to orientation to get your reference forms. I could be wrong cause it's been a while.

I understand that all applicants that scored the minimum composite score on their NET (HOBET) exam receives an invitation to a group orientation. The primary purposes of this orientation seem to be expressing the demands, expectations and costs related to the program which you should know most of already if you did your due diligence prior to applying. They then expressed the next steps in the selection process. At our location, they advised us that they would send interview packets to the top scoring students with the amount of invitees totaling approximately 150% of the expected class size. From this pool of candidates they would select those to accept into the program after scoring the interviews. Of course there were a few other steps to be accomplished prior like letters of recommendations and physical.

I'm pretty sure I know which one you attend by this statement. A co-worker of mine tried to apply for this one and I thought it was insane that before you're even accepted into the program, you have to have your physical and immunizations. My co-worker ended up wasting 600$ and didn't even get accepted into the school.
At my school, once you get accepted, you have a month to complete your physical and immunizations. Also, we didn't have an interview process-highest scoring students get in.
I think that it's really insane that you have to get all these titers and/or immunizations and background check done before you are officially accepted into this program. If I don't get accepted, then I have spent all this time and money for nothing. I just hope that I do good on the interview and that my NET scores are enough.
I'm sorry if I was unclear in my prior post. Physicals and shots were not required until after your acceptance into the program but due prior to the program start. Your right, it would be unfair to spend that type of money not knowing you nwere accepted.
Lifeisgood, I agree it is unfair to make candidates pay before they are accepted, but the TN Tech that I'm trying to get into does just that. Candidates have to have all there titers and/or vaccinations and background checks completed before orientation or before acceptance letters are sent out. That's why I'm so worried about getting accepted. I have already had to put in a lot of money into this program without even knowing whether I will be accepted or not.
While I understand that all TTC programs vary somewhat, that still seems a little strange. It's completely understandable that your acceptance be conditional upon your completion of all administrative requirements. I too find it hard to believe anyone would require that kind of expenditure without any assurance of your acceptance once completed. I think that is why they interview so many more candidates than slots because so many either change their minds or fail to complete the necessary steps. One other point of clarification is that our program had two orientation meetings. The first was for all candidates who successfully passed their entrance exam. and the next was for only those selected for class. This second orientation happened right before the start of the program, and it was there that all completed documentation has to be submitted. Failure to sucessfully complete these would be the only reason you would be denied entry. I would call the admissions rep or program director at your center for clarification. Good luck!
Oh, I've talked to them on numerous occasions. I'm referring to the Nashville TN Tech. Feel free to call and verify. The deadline to have all the paperwork in is Oct. 15 which is the same day as the orientation. I have to turn in 2 personal and 1 work reference forms, run background check through verified credentials, high school transcript, complete medical form which includes a basic physical, proof of titers (including lab reports), and any immunizations needed (including shot records). I have to write an essay, and give them a copy of my driver's liscence.
And, if you do all these things, there's still no guarantee of acceptance? Wow!
No, there is no guarentee. I'm certaintly not complaining because if I get in it's well worth it, but if I don't I've spent a lot of money. If I don't get in, I'm going to try Murfreesboro and Shelbyville hopefully everything will transfer so that I don't have to do it again. I'm just wondering with the economy being so bad right now how many applicants can afford to do all these requirements with no guarentees. Sad to say but hopefully that will work in my favor and help dwindle down the total applicants and give me a better chance of getting into the program.
Best of luck to you!
