TMCC just cut their accelerated Nursing Program

U.S.A. Nevada

Did anyone else hear this ? Due to budget cuts, TMCC just cut their accelerated (16) month nursing program  Now they only offer the traditional (no summer classes). I heard it on the news but can't find it on the site.

Oh wow!! The lady I talked to at the Nursing department said that was most likely going to happen with the budget cuts! That's so sad! But UNR's Is 16months for a BSN & they accept spring & fall. Better to try for that BSN anyway, right?!

I am a TMCC nursing student, graduating in May...Yes the "rumor" is true. They did cut the fast track program and the Redfield campus will be closing.

Kjsquared, isn't the Redfield campus the main campus ? So where will the traditional nursing program be held.... TMCC has a campus in south Reno right ?

Gabby27 - The Redfield campus is located in South Reno and is not the main campus. The main campus is Dandini.

I am applying for the traditional program this fall and they not only cut the fast track, but allowed students that are taking classes this spring to apply for the fall as well. TMCC has effectively just screwed a lot of people who have been working hard to get into nursing. I heard that there are over 100 people that have 4.0 GPA who have applied, and there are only 64 positions available. I have what I considered a respectable 3.6 GPA and did well on my HESI, and now my chances to get into the nursing program are next to zero. I have been at TMCC for four years chipping away at prereq's and have been an EMT for 15 years, and it means nothing! Sorry for the rant, I am SO stressed by the new circumstances that I am facing! There are a lot of people in my same boat, and we have Reno ties, but now need to figure out a new strategy for getting into nursing. Good luck everyone!

Bristowa, its more like 32 spots that are available for Fall, i just spoke with the nursing department about it. However, they will take another 32 for Spring. Wow, 100 people with 4.0 applied ? Did you hear that from the department ? Geez, that's crazy. Are you also trying for UNR ?

The applicant pool for the fall and spring is from this application period that is due at the end of May, so there are a total of 64 people that will be chosen from those who put in their aps this spring. One of the proctors giving the HESI told my friend about the 107 people who had the 4.0's. I wonder just how many actually have applied! I have seven more classes if I want to try for UNR, so I am looking in the Sacramento area where they have a lottery to get into their programs which seems like a better chance to get into school. I can't believe I just said that!

Evik: That announcement was made at the most recent Nursing Orientation meeting. . . the one in MARCH I believe. I applied in March after taking my HESI test, and did so with that knowledge.

Bristow: I guarantee that at the time you wrote that 107 4.0's applied, that it wasn't true. The reason I say this is: No applications had even been viewed by the nursing program, as they will not even consider looking, or ranking until all applications are in.

Fear mongering like this really irritates me. All we can do is turn in the best numbers possible, and have high hopes.
