Hello I am a new nurse and just started a job at a LTC facility at night. I am really struggling on getting my med pass done on time and pts get upset with me. But I go as fast as I can and do everything I am supposed to. I start my 8p med pass at 7 and am finished around 10:30 pm. I am really feeling overwhelmed and don't know if I am doing ahold job. Please give tips on saving time and getting all your work done.

That sounds like a nice job! Just stay on top of your med pass and do focused assessments to stay on top of things. Once you learn the meds and the patients it will be a dream job! I am an RN working in ltc (30 residents on day shift with moderate acuity) and it still takes me two hours, even after being there six years, to do the am med pass. I do love LTC but have accepted a new job in med surg. Good luck to you.

I'm also in the same boat. I'm a new grad RN and on my last week of orientation. I'm on the 7-3 shift in a LTC facility and responsible for 27 residents. I have 6 g-tubes (2 bolus 2x qshift, 1 bolus 1x qshft, 1 feeding at 2pm, other 2 just flushes) and 3 BGM.

Some have behavioral/memory issues and refuse to take their meds, some have like 10 pills each+syrups, nectar-thickened liquids, crushed pills. Not to mention Tx, scavenger hunting for supplies, charting and unforeseen events. I really want to take care of these people the best I can, but I'm just overwhelmed. The med pass feels like an eternity. HELP!! LOL!

I'm on the same boat now and it's really stressing me out even on days that I'm off. Everytime i go to work i feel so anxious and nervous and all thru out the shift i just wanna cry. I often wonder if this is how it's gonna be everytime I go to work?
