Time Management

I would love to hear one or two of your very best time management, time saving tips/tricks for floor nursing from some new nurses!

The best ones I have picked up at clinicals this semester are:

Give 9:00 & 10:00 meds together at 9:30 if not contraindicated.

Do assessment first thing after report and chart by exception only.

Chart as you go, if at all possible. Use post-it notes for reminders.

Try to accomplish as many things as possible with one trip to pts room.

MORE QUICK TIPS/ADVICE FOR SAVING TIME APPRECIATED!

Thanks!

time management is my #1 issue. I just cannot stay on top of all that is going on/needs to be done all at once! I'm a new grad, about to start my 8th and final week of orientation, and terrified at being on my own, as my preceptor inevitably has to bail me out by the end of the shift, as I cannot get it all done. Unfortunately or fortunately I will work days for the 1st 6 months, so each day on our gen. med. floor includes a plethora of procedures to prep patients for, new orders constantly needing to be transcribed and carried out, and discharge/admissions. Often, these things occur with very little notice/anticipatory time. If it was only the scheduled stuff, it'd be different, but as is I cannot get everything done. So I just want to thank everybody for the tips because I sure need all the help I can get! Getting organized (enough to cut it) is hard!
