Hello everyone !
Wanted to post on here after surviving the tumultuous world of nursing school.
I graduated in December 2013 with my ASN and after a brief hiatus from studying, I passed the NCLEX in May 2014 on my first attempt.
And like many others, I'm having quite a difficult time even getting call-backs from job applications, except for one - a position in corrections.
I wanted to ask, since I'm considering this position to be my first nursing gig out of school, any advice ?
What is the starting pay for new grads in Corizons ?
Down the road, how easy are correctional nurses able to transition into positions in hospitals, especially in acute care settings ?
Any help is greatly appreciated !!

My best friends Mom, who started her RN career as a second career later in life (like me) went into Corrections Nursing. She liked it and had a good career with a good pension and benefit package at retirement. It is not for everyone but as an older Nursing student I am willing to work a lot of places that perhaps a younger new RN would not. It is a job and it will show as experience is my thinking. Good luck!
Yea same here. I'm a bit older than most of my classmates and tbh, it doesn't seem as a problem.
I actually didn't capitalize on the job but got a call from the dept of juveniles and I'll see what they are offering. They are being contracted by G4S
