Specializes in Psych (my husband says I fit right in!).

Prefix to story: I am currently a nursing student, who works part time as a PCT, and am new to the experience of this brand new world I am discovering.

I am finding more and more that nursing is an addicting art. I call it an art, because when you are in the middle of something that is being created around you, there's no other name for it, really. I went to work the other night, and was surprised at the activity and emotions that simply caring for others brought out in me. All around the hospital floor was 'business', as in busy-ness. It was not very calming, and there were always ten things that seemed needed done all at the same time. But in the midst of all of this, a picture was being created. Bits and pieces of different lives were being intertwined, without people even realizing or thinking about it. By people caring for others who could not care for themselves, by helping others who were in pain and needed assistance, by just being there, so that others were not alone. The colors of compassion, patience, tenderness intertwined with skilled knowledge and disease processes. What could be done to make patients more comfortable medically, holistically, and personally came together to create a scene of beautifully orchestrated colors, and here I was in the middle of it, absorbing it all, wanting so much to be more involved and a part of it, and to experience more of it. What a night! What an experience! ~~~lovin it!

Quote by William Penn:

"I expect to pass through life but once. If, therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do for any fellow being, let me do it now.....as I shall not pass this way again. "

Good for you!

Thank you for that! I have just applied to the nursing program for this fall and I just got my first job in healthcare. I will be a transporter at a local hospital. I am so excited to get into this, and I cannot wait to experince those feelings that you posted about! I start my training on Monday and cannot wait!

Thanks again!:D
