I think I have made a decision....I am currently in a CNA program. At first I had planned to go to the RN program at our school, but after talking with the CNA teacher and another student in my class, have decided just to go with the LPN program. I so wanted to complete the RN program, but made a pros/cons list and all signs pointed to LPN. The biggest obsticle is my age. Yes, I know...it is only a frame of mind. This summer I will be 54 years old. By the time I finish 2 more math classes and 3 or 4 science classes, I will be....older Also, I don't want to be the boss...I want to work with pt care. Since most, if not all hospitals in the Kansas City area are only hiring BSN and CNAs, my options, as ab LPN, will be nursing homes, shcools and doctors offices. I have hives!!
excuse me...I will not be 54 this summe :yelclap: I will be 53

Wow, I thought I was the only one feeling insecure about my age. I am 45 and will be start an LPN program in August. I have been in the medical field for 20 years as a Certified Pharmacy Tech. I am also working on my degree on-line with Arizona State University for Family and Human development. Right now I am confused about whether or not I should go forward with the LPN program. I am worried about finding a job, mostly because of my age. I love care for others and have seen the medical field change in so many ways; not many of them good either. I am not sure if I want to go on and get my RN. Our only hospital rarely uses LPNs any more and I am not certain about working in a nursing home.
My mom is CNA who worked in our local hospital for 15 years and nursing homes before that and while I value her experience and opinions I feel she may be a little jaded from being tired of being in the profession. I need a little help. Is getting your LPN worth it? I know it can be grueling and I am not worried about that. I have no problem working hard. Any way, I need opinions, help, facts, etc....anything will help.
Thanks
